KoNA

As all standards and structures of KoNA follow the INSDC standards, the system of accession IDs issued by KoNA follows the format generally used in INSDC. As described previously, all metadata of KoNA consist of the four objects: BioProject, BioSample, Experiment, and Run. BioSample Group and KRA are used for grouping multiple BioSamples, and Experiments and Runs, respectively. Each object has a unique accession ID. All accession IDs consist of letters in uppercase and numeric numbers. The letters indicate the object, and the number indicates the approval year and order. For letters that represent the country, “K” is included to represent Korea (in the case of other countries, “S”, “E”, “D”, and “C" stand for the U.S.A., Europe, Japan, and China, respectively). First, the accession ID of BioProject starts with “PRJK,” followed by numbers. “PRJ” stands for a project, and “K” stands for Korea. The accession ID of the umbrella project starts with “UPRJK,” and “U” indicates umbrella. The accession ID of BioSample starts with “SAMK,” followed by numbers. “SAM” indicates Sample, and “K” indicates Korea. For a group of multiple samples with the same type, the accession ID starts with “GSAMK” with “G” showing Group. The accession ID of Experiment and Run starts with “KRX” and “KRR,” respectively. The first letter “K” stands for Korea.

The first two digits of the numeric part of all accession IDs indicate the year. For example, the numeric part of accession IDs deposited (approved) in 2021 starts with 21. The remaining four or more digits are automatically assigned in the order of items deposited (approved) in that year.
