Project Title Genome Analysis of Marine Organisms and Development of Functional Applications
Relevance environmental
Description "Recent advances in DNA sequencing technology have enabled the acquisition of genetic information of various microorganisms present in the environment. Metagenome research is actively being conducted to obtain, interpret, and apply information on new proteins and metabolites by sequencing these genes. These meta-genome studies have led to a paradigm shift from genomic-centered studies of cultured microorganisms to gene-centered studies of uncultured microorganisms. For the basis of utilization of various microbial genes present in the marine fisheries environment, this study aims to identify genes by applying metagenomic research methods and provide the basis for gene utilization through their active screening. In particular, the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes is analyzed by integrally using genetic data, protein structure, and activity data through experimental verification to improve understanding of functional variations due to genetic variation. The results of these studies are expected to provide an important basis for the gene utilization of uncultured microorganisms. Assignment content In this study, by applying the meta-genomics research method, we intend to discover useful genes including antibiotic resistance genes in marine fisheries environments and build a database for efficient use of genetic information as follows. ● In order to establish an antibiotic resistance gene metagenome database in the marine fisheries sector, antibiotic resistance gene information collected at home and abroad is secured, and resistance genes are identified by securing metagenome data in the domestic environment. ● Based on genes obtained through gene prediction and function prediction derived from marine microbiome, active experiments discover genes with improved efficiency and understand instruments. ● Verification and active screening of identified genes are performed and the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes is analyzed using these information to improve the understanding of gene functions. ● In order to develop an efficient information system for utilizing antibiotic resistance information in the marine fisheries sector, a system for improving the prediction of antibiotic resistance genes is developed, and literature information is efficiently integrated using text mining. ● The resistance mechanism is presented through analysis through the use of antibiotic resistance information in the marine fisheries field, and the possibility of transmission is analyzed through comparison and analysis of marine fisheries and human resistance genes. Expected Effects and Utilization ○ Technical aspects ● Securing unbiased resistant genes and pathotoxic gene detection methods to overcome the limitations of existing resistant gene detection methods (biased PCR diagnosis methods and limited diagnosis of cultured bacteria) ● Identification of the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and pathotoxic genes throughout the marine fisheries environment in Korea ● New resistance mechanisms can be discovered by securing genetic information on antibiotic resistance derived from the marine fisheries environment at home and abroad ● Antibiotic resistance genes are highly likely to be transmitted, so identifying the distribution of potential antibiotic resistance genes at the gene level enables prediction of transmission-like resistance genes ● In particular, it enables identification of resistant genes present in non-cultured bacteria ● Establish a basic knowledge to secure various useful genetic information and assets in the marine ecosystem, maintain and analyze the database systematically. ● Decoding the chemical and biological functions of the gene provided the basis for research in marine biotechnology. ● It is expected to develop with related fields such as structural biology, system biology, and protein engineering through research on useful genes and proteins. ○ Economic and industrial aspects ● Can be used to develop new antibiotics using antibiotics and resistance gene information ● Development of a new diagnostic test method using resistance genetic information is possible ● Establish measures to prevent death by developing a monitoring system by securing pathotoxic genes ● Useful genetic information is the basis of biological resources that can be developed through bioenergy sources and synthesis of new drugs ● Chemical and biological research on genes and proteins is the basis for the development of life and medical fields, thus creating synergy with related fields ○ Social aspects ● Application of antibiotic-resistant genes in the marine fisheries environment in Korea to establish policies for the use ● Provides the basis for identifying the path of transmission of antibiotic resistance ● Use to establish medical health policies by identifying the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and pathotoxic genes in Korea and abroad ● Training professionals in marine bio-related fields through convergence research in bioinformatics, biochemistry, microbiology, etc. and laying the foundation for the underlying knowledge and business."
